Unfortunately, there was NO silence in the kitchen despite my previous hopes and dreams. 5 year-old children make mornings slightly less productive.
I headed out to Monoprix and felt this powerful sensation that sometimes manifests itself when walking alone. Almost like I belong here, like this is my city now... Despite the rude Monoprix workers, I still walked out with flat green, but cute espadrilles for the weekend by the sea.
I made my way to the 19ème arrondissement alone, taking the metro 7 up to Porte de la Villette. Exiting the dark underground, a maze of concrete and man-made installed greenery filled my line of vision. I took a stroll to the Cité de la Science et de l’Industrie which is essentially a science museum for youngins.
After seeing people people float on air, I decided nothing more could be gained from this experience and moved on to the next stop.
Walking through Parc de la Villette, I saw a really large disco ball...or something along those lines.
Then, haphazardly, I ran into the canal and felt suddenly transferred to Amsterdam. Paris will keep on surprising.
Reaching the Parc des Buttes Chaumont, I had to climb uphill. Seeing a gazebo in the distance on an outcropping of rocks, I asked, where did Paris go?
I sat and had a beer at Rosa Bonheur. For some strange reason, I could not finish the beer as it hit my head fast...I’ll take it..."lightweight!"
Whatever...
To add, I felt that the slightly cute bartender was a little too hoity-toity or at least thought a significant amount of himself which in turn took him down a few notches. Just thought you all should know this detail as we had a full-on debate about it. Spending the rest of the afternoon on those wooden stools, the fresh air was rehabilitating.
Class time came around quickly and we walked briskly to Loren’s, the cutest little oasis hidden on a rather nondescript street. The apartment was more like a little townhouse with thoughtful bohemian decorations and so much LIGHT. A big ceiling to floor window was open at the front and the elevated kitchen was marked by a ceiling of windows. I want her to give me her place. Plain and simple. Sweet beyond sweet she served us nuts, chips, wine, and delicious cheese that I spread all over a baguette.
My heaven in a class. Wow. Who else can say they had a teacher offer them wine and cheese during class...HA! The cheese was calling my name as the gooey goodness spread easily on my bread.
After class was over, we had a discussion about concentrating in romance languages at Harvard. I am 99% sure that I will do a joint in French and it feels good to be working towards a goal that in theory will have an impact on my future to such a degree.
Getting back to the apartment with purpose, we quickly changed, took a shower and busted our butts over to a Monoprix for provisions during the all-nighter we were about to pull. Oh yes, you heard me right. Also, because the world works in mysterious ways, it started to really pour as our slightly damp showered selves leaped through puddles, and into the grocery store quite drenched. These provisions consisted of Nutella, butter cookies, ruffle chips, 4 Granny Smith apples and some mozzarella balls. We think about our health, what can I say.
Back at the apartment with everything packed, we made our way out at 11:30pm, taking the metro to a bus to get to terminal 2D at CDG.
Accidentally, Anna was wearing all shades of pink and red while I was in sea green. I am sure we were a funny sight.
Arriving at the airport, we settled in the surprisingly busy area, we ate our apples, dug into our mozzarella, and eventually moved to the Nutella as we started to watch our downloaded Harry Potter movie: The Prisoner of Azkaban.
After making it through security, we sat down and straight up napped by accident. Our bodies were having enough. Then we went through passport control where I had trouble understanding the man who changed into English when he saw my passport. Speak in French, I would understand better!
Then we boarded around 5:30am, and that is where I leave you for the next day.
